"Storm Child"
by Haili G
The smell of rain in the air bathing your body
The heaviness of gray clouds pregnant with water
The heat of the day and the tension in the sky
This is the birth of the storm child
The Child of thunder, child of storms
The Child of wind, the child of rain
Booming, raging, howling, pouring
The Child of sleet, child of snow
The Child of lightning, the child of hail
Falling, blowing, striking, pounding
Child of hurricanes, of waves and seas
Child of tornados, of dust and debris
Circling, crashing, cycling, coalescing
This is the Child of the Storm
"The Color of Sound"
by Haili G
Listen. Can you hear the colors singing?
Can you hear them calling?
The soft pink of the flute
The dark blue of the clarinet
The bright red of the trumpet
The purple majesty of the horn
The deep brown of the tuba
The orange of the saxophone
The yellow of the bright whistle
Can you hear the colors?
Sniff. Can you smell the colors’ perfume?
Can you find their soft scent?
The pink smell of roses
The blue smell of the lake
The red scent blood
The purple smell of old precious things
The gray smell of rain
The green smell of new growing things
The yellow smell of all things clean and lemony
Can you smell the colors?
Taste. Can you lick the colors?
Can you tell what they taste like?
The pink of frosting and marshmallow fondant, and all things soft and fluffy
The blue taste of refreshing mint
The red taste of anything hot and spicy
The purple taste of chocolate and fruit
The pure white taste of eggs and meringue
The orange taste of citrus on a hot day
The yellow taste of rainbow sherbet
Can you taste the colors?
Touch. Can you feel the colors?
Can you stroke them?
The pink of a soft newborn baby’s cheek
The sky blue of an old worn t shirt
The red of bricks and tiles, roasting in the sun
The purple of rich velvet
The white texture of silk and lace
The green of grass and fur
The brown of dirt and earth
Can you feel the colors?
They both need work. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
